Almost 62,500 tested as ACT remains free of COVID-19

The ACT has reported another 24 hours without a new coronavirus case.

The number of tests conducted surpassed 62,400 on Thursday after 1282 negative results in the past 24 hours.

As the ACT closed in on five weeks without a new case, residents who had been caught up in a border impasse began the journey home.

Analysis: The ACT is calling NSW, but nobody is home

About 100 residents travelling from Victoria had their permits revoked by the NSW government on Friday after a last-minute change to border restrictions.

NSW recorded its first death from COVID-19 in 10 days on Thursday after a woman in her 80s became the 53rd person in the state to die from the virus.

The state also recorded another 12 infections.

These included five returned overseas travellers, three locally acquired cases with no known source and four locally acquired cases linked to known cases.
