Almost 50% of readers will be visiting non-essential shops tomorrow

Almost half of our readers said they would be visiting non-essential shops once they are allowed to open tomorrow.

More than 6,000 people responded to our retail survey ahead of the lockdown easing tomorrow in England.

From April 12, non-essential shops can open including department stores, clothing shops, homeware stores and car showrooms.

Retailers will also be permitted to open until 10pm and clothes shops will be allowed to open their changing rooms.

45% of our readers (2,730 people) said they would be visiting non-essential retailers tomorrow, while 39% (2,332 people) said they would not.

994 people (16%) said they were not sure.

But there are concerns over crowds for many, the survey revealed.

Responding to the question 'are you concerned about crowds when shops reopen?', 2,205 people (43%) said they were 'very' concerned.

But 1,844 people said they were 'a little' concerned, while 22% of people (1,115) said they were not concerned at all.

A quarter of those who responded (1,508 people) also said they were likely to do the majority of their shopping online post-pandemic.
