Almost 50 jobs to come with new B&M store on Durham City Retail Park

Almost 50 new jobs have been created with news that retailer B&M is moving to a bigger site in Durham.

The new store at the former B&Q on Durham City Retail Park will open next Thursday, offering customers a bigger range than the chain’s previous shop in the city. 45 new jobs will be created.

The company is now looking for a local VIP to open and is looking for people who have helped the Durham community during the coronavirus lockdown. The person chosen will cut the ribbon to open the store and will get £250 in vouchers to spend there. Nominations should be sent to DurhamHero@bmstores.co.uk before the end of this week.

Store manager Mark Pedalty said: “We know there have been lots of people who have done amazing things for our local community over the last few months.

“We hope that our donation can help treat them and show them how much the community really appreciates their hard work.”

He added: “Our new colleagues have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day, we can’t wait to get the doors open on the 25th and show customers their brand new B&M.”
