Almost 400 coronavirus deaths were recorded in the UK today - the highest daily figure since May

Almost 400 new coronavirus deaths were recorded in the United Kingdom today - the highest daily total announced since the end of May.

In total, 397 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Tuesday, November 3.

It's the highest daily figure published by the Government since May 27 when 422 deaths were reported.

So far, 47,250 lives have been claimed by the virus in the UK.

The figures include deaths of people who had had a positive test result for COVID-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test.

Data from the four nations are not directly comparable as methodologies and inclusion criteria vary, according to the Government.

NHS England announced a further 225 deaths on Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 33,335.

Patients were aged between 47 and 101 years old, NHS England said.

All except 11 (aged 52 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from October 21 to November 2.
