Almost 300 workers to be made redundant at Derbyshire furniture group

Almost 300 workers at a Derbyshire furniture group which fell into administration are to be made redundant after failing to secure a buyer for two of its businesses.

JDP Furniture Group, a Long Eaton-based holding company for the Celebrity Motion Furniture, Welbeck House, Wade Upholstery, JDP Frames, Ikon by Celebrity, Cintique, Celebrity and Arlo & Jacob brands - appointed FRP Advisory as administrators last month.

Administrators have now announced the closure of subsidiaries JDP Frames and Welbeck House, both in Long Eaton, after failing to find a buyer for both.

Both businesses have permanently closed down with a total of 281 staff made redundant – 76 at JDP Frames and 205 at Welbeck House.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all manufacturing operations of the Wellington Road headquartered furniture group stopped on March 25.

Upon FRP's appointment, a marketing process was launched to find a buyer for JDP Frames and Welbeck House.

But no acceptable offers were received to maintain the businesses as going concerns.

A handful of core staff have been retained in the short term to assist the administrators in their duties within each business.

JDP Furniture Group Limited, the holding company for the group, has also been closed.

A core team of staff has been retained in the short term to assist with the wind down of the group, while a further nine staff have been made redundant.

Meanwhile, the administrators continue to progress interest in H&F Upholstery, which trades as Arlo & Jacob, after acceptable offers were made for the business.

A Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) is expected to be put to the creditors of Celebrity Motion Furniture Limited as the administrators look to restructure the business and return control to the directors.

Joint administrator Nathan Jones said: “Without any acceptable offers for JDP Frames and Welbeck House, these companies will now be fully wound down and, regrettably, staff made redundant.

"Following a consultation process, we’re supporting those affected staff with making claims to the Redundancy Payments Office.”
