Almost 30 positive cases of COVID have been confirmed at an East Kilbride care home.
Twenty-two patients and five members of staff have returned positive tests at Lindsayfield Lodge in the town’s Rosaburn Avenue (pictured).
Managing director of Northcare, which runs seven homes including Lindsayfield Lodge, confirmed two units at the home had been affected.
But Margaret Sawyers was confident the quality of care provided at the home wouldn’t suffer as a result.
Speaking to the News,
she said: “We have eight positive cases amongst residents in one unit, and 14 in another.
“We have five members of staff with the condition too and they have been sent home to isolate.
“As soon as any staff member shows any symptoms, they are sent home.”
Ms Sawyers says routine testing is carried out at the home and a positive case was first identified last Monday.
She said cases have increased since then and that staff won’t be allowed to return until they have tested and returned a negative reading.
The care home boss confirmed there had been seven deaths at the home as a result of COVID-19 throughout the pandemic, but says staff follow “stringent” infection control measures.
She added: “This has been our first outbreak at the home since the first three weeks in the first wave.
“We don’t have issues with access to PPE for staff and are just about to introduce the 11-minute testing kits this week – that’s across all seven homes.
“We also have thermal detection cameras at the home that check the temperature of staff when they come in in the morning. Anyone showing signs of a temperature is asked to go home and not come into the building.”
Ms Sawyers says all families of residents have been contacted regarding the outbreak personally by her and that there is “enough cover” for staff who have tested positive.
