Neighbours say new housing estate in Gedling will 'ruin' their 'lovey' area

Almost 30 homes have been proposed for an area of green space in Gedling, making residents nervous about the future of their quiet resident road.

WFW Developments Limited have submitted plans for 28 four-bedroom homes at the bottom of Grange View Road, which is part of Willow Farm.

Back in 2019, plans for 110 homes on the wider Willow Farm site were greeted with concerns from local residents, with campaign group the Willow Farm Action Group having spoken out over the project.

In a Facebook post, the action group encouraged residents to add their comments to the latest planning application, which is available for viewing on the Gedling Borough Council planning portal.

People in their area spoke of their concerns with the latest plans.

Jacqueline Harp, 65, who has lived in Gedling for more than 20 years, wants the area to stop changing.

She said: "I'm not very happy with it, this road and area is so lovely and it'll ruin that.

"It seems like any available land is being turned into houses.

"I wish it could remain as it is: a nice piece of land which has been home to lots of animals.

"I guess it's happening across Nottinghamshire."

Peter Lindsay, 69, a member of Willow Farm Action Group, has lived on the road for 42 years.

He said: "At some stage, regardless of what we want, it's irrelevant as there will be houses built up there sooner or later.

"It's not an if it is a when.

"The days of objection are gone, there really is no option.

"This will make this road a very busy.

"It is a lesser of two evils.

"The plan looks quite reasonable.

"If we have to suffer disruption now I'd prefer 28 houses being built up there than a bigger development."

A member of the action group, who lives in the area and asked not to be named, has accepted her quiet street's fate.

She said: "I objected to the 110 new homes proposal but we got turned down.

"Nobody wants any developments, full stop.

"We live in a very quiet cul-de-sac and this road will be used for access.

"We've got no choice.

"We don't see anyway of stopping it."

The development, which includes solar panels and electric vehicle charging points at every home, will be behind Grange Crescent but be accessible via Grange View Road.

None of the homes will be allocated as 'affordable'.
