Almost 3,000 people used new 24-hour Dublin Bus service in first five days

Almost 3,000 people used one of the new Dublin Bus 24-hour services within the first five days of operation.

The 41 bus, which operates from Lower Abbey Street in the city centre to Swords, had 2,829 passengers between the hours of midnight and 6am in the first five days of operation.

Figures show that between 508 and 582 people used the service both ways on each of the five nights.

Local TD Noel Rock has dubbed the figures as a sign of the "obvious success" of the route. Route 15 has also been changed in a 24-hour service.

He said: "Dublin has long been a 24-hour city, and it's good that we finally have a bus service to reflect that.

“This is tremendously encouraging and clearly shows that not only is this service necessary, but we should consider expanding it to other routes too.

He continued: "I've campaigned for this route for the last two years to ensure that hard-pressed shift workers and airport workers have a low-cost solution to getting home at the end of a working day, or getting to work at the start of one.

"It's great to have this service up and running for Christmas season, and I have no doubt that as the months go on and more people hear about this service, that even more of them will use it."
