Almost €11,000 raised to send home remains of Polish man Mariusz Kryszak who died in Gap of Dunloe, Co Kerry road accident

Almost €11,000 has been raised to send home the remains of a man who died in a road accident.

Mariusz Kryszak, 45, was killed when his bicycle was involved in a collision with a car near Killarney, Co Kerry on 2 June.

A Polish national, Mr Kryszak had spent the past 15 years working at the Dunloe Hotel & Gardens.

He started as a kitchen porter in The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens and worked his way up to be Hotel Concierge.

Co-workers and locals were shocked by his sudden death, which occurred on a stretch of road popular with cyclists in the Gap of Dunloe.

Pals have banded together to launch a GoFundMe page in a bid to repatriate Mr Kryszak's remains.

Nearly 250 people have raised €10,750 over the course of the past week, quickly surpassing the original target of €5,000.

A tribute on the GoFundMe reads: "Mariusz tragically passed away on Sunday the 2nd of June .

"He was our friend and our colleague.

"He worked with Killarney Hotels for over 15 years where he will be sadly missed.

"We his colleagues ask you to please help us support our friend on his final journey home.

"The funds will be used to help his daughter Sandra and the Kryszak family repatriate their loved one back to Poland.

"Any donation would be very much appreciated. We aim to withdraw the funds to a dedicated Memorial Fund opened with AIB bank.

"This will be combined with the generous donations made through the hotel and church collections which we will then present to Sandra and the Kryszak Family. Thank you."

Several mourners have paid tribute to Mariusz on the page.

One said: "Rest in Peace Mariusz. You will be sadly missed where you welcomed everyone to the Dunloe and went beyond your duties to make sure everyone was ok and had a great time.

Another pal added: "An absolute legend of a man...will be sadly missed."

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area close to the time of the collision, especially those with dashcam footage, to contact Killarney Garda Station 064-6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
