Almost 100 Leaving Cert students have huge stand-off in middle of busy Dublin city centre street

Up to 100 youths were involved in a mass brawl last night as groups from two schools clashed in Dublin City Centre.

Dublin Live understands the massive fight which broke out on popular Harcourt Street on the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It is believed the groups were mostly from two schools - one posh South Dublin group and another from a public school in Wicklow.

A witness said the huge row broke out in a premises "over something minor" before around "30/40 lads from each side" ended up coming to blows on the street.

In videos posted online, security staff can be seen ushering the two groups away from eachother.

The witness said: "It started off in the smoking area inside the venue, a row broke out over something minor.

"‘Was a bit of a mess but eventually but groups ended up outside on the street standing off.

"Was about 30/40 lads from each school and it kind of just kicked off.

"A lot of people weren’t involved but the guards came and separated the two sides."

A video posted online shows two large groups shouting at eachother with security forming a "buffer zone" between them as they usher them in opposite directions.

Other footage seen by Dublin Live shows a number of people being restrained on top of car bonnets as gardai arrive.

A public order unit then responded to the scene although a garda spokesperson could not locate records of any arrests.
