Almost 10,000 more covid cases recorded in Liverpool City Region

The Liverpool City Region has recorded nearly 10,000 more covid infections in just a week.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, there were 19,583 positive covid infections in the seven days ending December 24 in the Liverpool City Region - that's 9,946 more positive tests than the previous seven days.

This meant that Liverpool City Region's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 103%.

Each of the areas that make up the city region had very large increases in covid infections. The week-on-week percentage change figures rose by: 139% in Knowsley; 96% in Liverpool; 85% in Halton; 140% in St Helens; 113% in Sefton; and, 83% in Wirral.

Positive cases increased in Warrington, West Lancs, and Cheshire West and Chester.

England, as a whole, saw an increase in infections in the week ending December 24. The country recorded 704,052 coronavirus cases, which is 212,670 more cases than in the previous seven days.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 6,454 cases in the week ending December 24, which is 3,160 more cases than in the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 95.9%.

The latest infection rate was 1,289.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 1,615 positive tests over the last week, which is 741 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 85% in Halton in the week ending December 24.

The latest infection rate is 1,244.6 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 2,337 cases in the week ending December 24, which is 1,362 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 1290.5 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 140%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 2,034 cases in the week ending December 24, which is 1,182 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 1,334.2 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 139%.

Wirral

There were 3,748 positive tests in the week ending December 24, which is 1,700 more cases than in the previous week.

Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 83%. The latest infection rate was 1,155.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 3,395 cases in the week ending December 24, which is a 1,801 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1230.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 113% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 19,583 positive tests over in the week ending December 24, which is 9,946 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 103%. The latest infection rate is 1150.09 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 1,482 coronavirus cases in the week ending December 24, which is 916 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 162%. The infection rate was 1,294.37 per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 3,059 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 24, which is 1,381 more cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 82%. There was an infection rate of 1460.86 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 4,232 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 24, which is 1,768 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1,230.86 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 72% in cases.

England

In the week ending December 24, England recorded 704,052 coronavirus cases, which is 212,670 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 43% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 1,245.01 per 100,000 people.
