Almost 1,000 sex offenders live in Leeds - find out how many are in your area

Official figures reveal that that are almost 1,000 people across Leeds who are registered sex offenders.

The information, obtained by LeedsLive from a Freedom of Information Request, has been handed over by West Yorkshire Police.

The figures include, but are not limited to, offences against children - with the list showing that there are 980 registered sex offenders living in Leeds in 2020.

Armley has by far and away the most sex offenders in Leeds. 86 people in the west Leeds ward are on the most up-to-date version of the sex offenders register.

Beeston and Holbeck is joint-second on the morbid list alongside Gipton and Harehills, with 66 registered sex offenders living in each ward.

55 offenders live in Hunslet and Riverside, while 49 call Burmantofts and Richmond Hill their home.

The sex offenders register is a national database of anyone who has been anyone convicted, cautioned or released from prison for a sexual offence since September 1997.

Everyone on the register must give their full name, date of birth, home address and national insurance number to the police every single year, although the time limits for each offender varies depending on their sentence.

Anyone getting a jail term of 30 months to life is subject to an indefinite term of registration. Those sentenced for between six months and 30 months get 10 years on the register, while a sentence of six months or less means the offender must register with the police for seven years in total.
