Alma Wahlberg, the mother of actors Mark and Donnie and restauranteur Paul, has died at the age of 78 from complications related to dementia.
The death was announced in a number of social media posts by the family.
“My angel. Rest in peace,” Mark Wahlberg, 49, wrote as a caption on an undated photo of his late mother.
Donnie Wahlberg, 51, posted a slideshow of photos of Alma.
“My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am,” the older Wahlberg brother wrote, in part. “I’ve often said, if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma. I say that, because it’s true. She was, without a doubt, the most loving human being I’ve ever known.”
Donnie Wahlberg had previously posted social media updates about his mother’s health problems.
Paul Wahlberg, 57, the celebrity chef in the family behind the Wahlbergers chain, named another of his restaurant ventures, Alma Nova in Hingham, Massachusetts, after his mom.
She was also mother to Arthur, Jim, Robert, Michelle, Debbie (who died in 2003) and Tracey. Her husband Donald Wahlberg died in 2008.
