The Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo has given back to his alma mater, Stoneman Douglas High School, often over the years.

This week, the Parkland, Florida, school honored Rizzo by naming its baseball field after him.

Thank you to Anthony Rizzo - MSD alum and MLB superstar for his generous donation and support to help light up our baseball stadium.

“It’s crazy, especially with all that’s happened the last couple of years,” Rizzo told the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida. “But going to school here, growing up here, playing with a lot of really good players that have played at this school and come into this program, and having this named after us is something that I’ve never thought of. To be able to do it is just surreal.”

Rizzo’s foundation donated $150,000 to help pay for lights at the school’s ballfield. And he helped console families after a mass shooting at the school in 2018 killed 17 people.
