Ally McCoist settles the Premier League and SPL debate with bold Leeds United and Rangers claim

The age-old debate over how Celtic and Rangers would fair in English football continues to rumble on.

With Scottish Football on the decline, dominated by their two biggest clubs, there has been plenty of debate over how either club would fair in the Premier League or indeed the Championship.

Equally, the size of both Scottish clubs is always a touchy subject.

On Monday night, Jamie O'Hara told talkSPORT that Bournemouth's vacant managerial role a bigger job than Rangers, amid speculation Steven Gerrard could be tempted to the South Coast.

O’Hara said: “I wouldn’t want to disrespect the Rangers people because they are a huge football club but it is a bigger job to potentially be the Bournemouth manager.

“Rangers are a huge, huge football club but for me, there are only two teams in Scotland.

Bournemouth is the potential, they have just dropped out of the Premier League and to get them back into the Premier League. They are still a high profile football team.

“I would take the Bournemouth job. It’s the bigger job.”

However, Ally McCoist has now hit back claiming only three Premier League clubs are bigger than Rangers and placing the Scottish side directly above Leeds United.

Leeds or Rangers? Rangers” said the former Ibrox player and manager, when quizzed on the size of the two clubs.

“West Ham or Rangers? Rangers.

“Newcastle or Rangers? Rangers.

“Everton or Rangers? Rangers, but you’re closer now…

“Tottenham or Rangers? Rangers.

“Arsenal or Rangers? Erm… there’s a good one. Rangers.

“Chelsea or Rangers? Oh, I do like Chelsea, but I’m still going Rangers.

“There are only three or four – Manchester United, Man City, Liverpool, clubs like that,” he added.

“The only thing between these clubs and Rangers and Celtic in finances.

"If Rangers and Celtic played in the top-eight in England within five years you’ll have a top-eight instead of top six, it’s a simple as that.

"It’s just money that’s holding to Old Firm clubs back.”
