Ally McCoist sends cheeky Celtic reminder as Rangers legend responds to Covid outbreak 'inconsistency' jibe

Rangers legend Ally McCoist brushed off complaints that Hibs have been treated differently to Celtic in the wake of a Covid outbreak, as he called back to the curtailed 2019-20 campaign.

An outbreak in Jack Ross' squad saw a clash with Ross County postponed twice, while Saturday's Livingston game will also not go ahead.

The reason for that is that Hibs say they have just eight players available, while SPFL protocols dictate a match only goes ahead if the team in question has 13 fit players including a goalkeeper, and 10 of those are over 18.

However, speaking on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra, Celtic legend Chris Sutton called back to the outbreak in Neil Lennon's squad after a trip to Dubai - after which the Hoops continued to play.

And the former striker even joked that the inconsistency should see the whole of last season replayed.

Sutton cracked: "Celtic were forced to play games last season when they had Covid issues and Hibs aren’t?

“There’s massive inconsistencies.

“Celtic should have a complaint, maybe they should play last season again?

"Maybe take the title off Rangers because of it? I don’t know."

McCoist wasn't about to take that lying down though and the Rangers legend had the perfect response up his sleeve.

He quipped: "Chris, Chris can I just come in and tell you: you were GIVEN the title the previous year due to Covid!

"You were awarded the title because of Covid.”
