Ally McCoist savours his Celtic shocker tip as Rangers hero insists he backed 'bet of the season'

Ally McCoist insists his tip for Sparta Prague to stun Celtic again is "bet of the season" so far.

The Rangers legend lapped up the plaudits from his talkSPORT colleagues after backing the Czechs to do the double over Neil Lennon 's side.

Last week, McCoist was staggered to learn struggling Celtic were favourites for the Europa League clash.

He was proved right as the Hoops were battered 4-1 and crashed out the competition.

McCoist was reminded of the tip on-air and reckons it might not be beaten this term.

He said: "I've got to say, I think that might've been the bet of the season so far.

"It's easy with hindsight but we did build it up before it."

Co-host Alan Brazil admitted he can't bear to watch Celtic's visit to the San Siro on Thursday night as they look to turn their spiralling season around.

McCoist, however, had no such anxiety in discussing his beloved Rangers, who are a win over Standard Liege away from reaching the last 32.

He joked: "Come on over to the glass half-full side of this presenting show.

"And the half-full show is... 2/5 Rangers.

"Performances in Europe have been exceptional. A little bit of a disappointment, we've had two, two-goal leads against Benfica home and away.

"But I thought, Steven Gerrard, in his interview after the game at Ibrox, where they were 2-0 up with about 15 minutes to go, he was brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

"He took a step back and said: 'Are we disappointed to lose a two-goal lead in both games? Yes'.

"But if you look at both games across the 180 minutes, he said a draw was a fair result in both games and I thought he was spot on."
