There's various ways to become a fan favourite but Scott Arfield might have found the perfect way.
He plays with an infectious smile, works hard, never gives up and - most importantly - is very good.
His post match interview following Rangers 3-2 win over Standard Liege summed him up perfectly and Ally McCoist couldn't hide his pride when looking on.
Arfield spoke regularly about how much he was 'loving' life in Glasgow and he's arguably in the form of his life this season.
The goal to put Rangers through was his seventh of the season and his fourth in the last five games for the club.
And when asked about his form he said: "I love it. I’m loving it. I always do. Football is the greatest gift anyone has given me so any time I can go and play, particularly with a club this size and nights like this then it’s very memorable.
"As you said, we’re thriving and I’m a mainstay in this team at the minute. But I think the minute you think you’re going to play every game that’s when someone takes your shirt.
"That’s the mentality the gaffer has set from day one, it’s the mentality I’ve always had as a player and everyone in the team has the same.
"If we continue to do that then surely we’re going to be more successful."
When the BT Sport cameras went back to the outside studio at Ibrox, the smile was right across McCoist's face as he explained his love for the passion of Arfield.
The midfielder might play for Canada but growing up in Scotland he knows all about the size of Rangers and McCoist was almost emotional as he hailed the matchwinner.
McCoist said: "Don’t you just love that interview? He’s just loving life, he’s loving playing for the Rangers, he’s loving training, he’s loving scoring goals. It’s brilliant.
"I’m thrilled for him, I’m delight for him. I’m delighted with what he’s serving us up, it’s great. Very important goals.
"He gives us something different in the middle of the park where he goes beyond the front players."
