Ally McCoist's son settles out of court after crash victim sues him for 'life changing' brain injury

A pedestrian who was has settled a personal injury claim for an undisclosed sum.

Stephan Murdoch, 24, when he suffered a life changing brain injury after being hit by Argyll McCoist's uninsured sports car.

The case related to damages for injuries, as well the costs of necessary ongoing treatment and loss of earnings following the incident in December 2016.

A court hearing was due to take place at the Court of Session in Edinburgh this month, however, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement in December.

Chris Stewart, Partner at Digby Brown Solicitors and head of the serious injury department, said: “Mr Murdoch suffered injuries that will adversely impact the rest of his life.

“He has shown tremendous fortitude throughout and I am proud that we have been able to help as he looks to the future.

"Mr Murdoch offers his thanks to everyone who provided support over the last three years, but he has now requested privacy as he moves forwards.”

Mr Murdoch was crossing the road in his home town of Bishopton, Renfrewshire, when McCoist raced through a red light in his £20,000 Audi 1S Line TDI.

He suffered a fractured skull and a brain injury. He also spent a week in hospital and had to use crutches for six months after the collision.

McCoist pleaded guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court in 2018 to dangerous driving and having no insurance.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew sentenced him to 280 hours unpaid work and he was also electronically tagged on a restriction of liberty order for six months.

He was also banned him from driving for three and a half years. 

The court heard that McCoist had been speeding through Bishopton when he struck Mr Murdoch at around 9.30pm.
