Ally McCoist's brutal verdict on Newcastle's bore draw with West Brom

Ally McCoist has opened up on how poor of a spectacle Newcastle's 0-0 draw with West Brom was on Sunday.

The former Rangers forward and manager was on co-commentary duty for Amazon Prime Video's live coverage from the bore draw at the Hawthorns and admitted it was a 'tough' watch.

The Magpies limped to a disappointing 0-0 draw with West Brom on Sunday to nudge up to 16th place in the Premier League table, but they are now just one point clear of the relegation zone after Fulham's recent resurgence.

While Newcastle have won just two of their last 18 matches in all competitions under Steve Bruce, Fulham have managed to strip a 10-point gap between themselves and the Magpies down to just one point in the space of three weeks.

The Cottagers' intent in their 1-0 win over Premier League Champions Liverpool on Sunday was in stark contrast to Newcastle's performance at the struggling Baggies and McCoist joked his experience at the Hawthorns was 'somebody punishing' him.

“Holy moly guacamole, I’m a big fan of football and I’ll go anywhere to watch a game but that was a tough match yesterday,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“Clive [Tyldesley, co-commentator] said to me where do you think this will come in the running order for the Match of the Day 2 highlights, I said Tuesday – if they get round to it.

“It was somebody punishing me somewhere.”
