Ally McCoist recalls East Kilbride childhood and Rangers' last Euro glory as he dreams of Seville success

Rangers legend Ally McCoist had a flashback to his childhood in East Kilbride as the town's famous son dreams of watching his boyhood club lift the Europa League trophy tonight.

The Ibrox icon is in Seville to provide analysis for BT Sport on Rangers' historic clash with German side Eintracht Frankfurt at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Rangers are aiming to win their first European trophy since 1972, when they won the Cup Winners' Cup in Barcelona.

And after McCoist was informed by BT host Darrell Currie that Rangers have only ever once won in Spain, which was their 3-2 triumph over Dynamo Moscow in 1972, he said: "I can't believe that. I remember listening to it with my mum and dad in the kitchen in the house up in East Kilbride, and we went 3-0 up and we lost two goals.

"I can remember the last 10 minutes, just hanging on, praying that Moscow Dynamo wouldn't equalise, so that really takes me back.

"Those boys were legends.

"It would be wondeful to get a second one."

It will be an emotional night for the club as they aim to lift the trophy in a year legendary kitman Jimmy Bell and iconic boss Walter Smith passed away.

And it would mark an incredible turnaround for the club nine years on from their demotion to the very bottom of the Scottish leagues in 2012.

Before the game, McCoist also said: "I’m emotional today. I’m thinking about Walter, Jimmy Bell and the goalie. I’m thinking of Durranty on the sofa with a crate after his knee op.

"But I’m also thinking of that ball stuck in the hedge at Brechin nine years ago - now we’re in a Euro final."
