Ally McCoist recalls bizarre Rangers Christmas night out scene as Stormtrooper and Roman centurion visit Glasgow Chinese restaurant

Ally McCoist has looked back on madcap Christmas nights out with Rangers in fancy dress and revealed Glaswegians were often unaware of who was under the costumes.

Before the advent of covid and lockdown across parts of the country it was traditional for players to cut lose and have a night on the town.

And McCoist was a big fan of celebrating the festive season by going out with his Ibrox teammates in costume, often taking on the part of Henry the 8th and even going as Barney Rubble and a Roman centurion.

Asked if he enjoys fancy dress, he told talkSPORT: "Oh yes. We used to do fancy dress every Christmas Party. I used to go as Henry the 8th.

"And probably the size of me I'd make a very good Henry right now!

"I did a very good Barney Rubble one year but the best thing is we used to go out and have a right good kick at the ball so to speak.

"We used to always finish at the Canton Express in Glasgow.

"I can remember at half past one in the morning looking around me.

"There was a Roman Centurian. There was a Stormtrooper from Star Wars. There was a St Trinian's schoolgirl.

"The beauty of it was there was all these Rangers players sitting about and the Glaswegians are just getting battered into their chow mein and sweet and sour not bothering their backsides.

"I went out one year as a Roman centurion with the metal things on my shoulders and the marks were still there in June!

"It was a nightmare!"
