Ally McCoist makes Darwin Nunez claim as Liverpool striker tipped for fightback

Ally McCoist insists there is 'no secret solution' for Darwin Nunez as the Liverpool striker attempts to rediscover his form.

Nunez had enjoyed a dream start to life on Merseyside, scoring in the Community Shield final before a first Premier League goal in the opening weekend 2-2 draw at Fulham. But a rash red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen in the following weekend's draw with Crystal Palace brought that start to a halt, and the Uruguayan has failed to pick up where he left off.

The 23-year-old has only started two games since - including tonight's Champions League tie against Rangers - and is yet to add to his goalscoring tally. and in the buildup to tonight's 'Battle of Britain' clash, McCoist - who scored over 400 goals in his career - insisted that there is 'no secret formula' other than hard work on the training ground and a little bit of luck.

"I like him, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him, it’s to come," McCoist told BT Sport. "You look back to that Charity Shield game, him and Haaland where the talk of the town, he didn’t have a good start and look at him now.

"The sending off didn’t do him any favours at all, killed the momentum, the sending off was sheer stupidity but more than that, missing the games killed any momentum he had. He’s good and this will be the start of the climb back.

"For me, training you just get two or three bags of balls and finish. You'd take one of the younger lads, they’d batter balls into you, you take a few of the young goalkeepers and you’d just hit the back of the net, hit the back of the net, hit the back of the net.

"Sometimes it’s the slightest bit of luck which will turn it for you, a mis-hit shot, that little bit of luck for you. There’s no secret solution other than hard work."
