Ally McCoist laughs off Steven Gerrard Rangers exit rumour as Ibrox icon insists HE is more likely to get Everton gig

Ally McCoist insists there's more chance of HIM being named Everton manager than Steven Gerrard.

The Rangers boss was surprisingly linked with the vacancy at Goodison Park after Carlo Ancelotti left to join Real Madrid.

It would be an unlikely move, not least because Gerrard is a club legend at Everton's city rivals Liverpool.

And Rangers icon McCoist instantly dismissed the prospect as he maintained he'd be more likely to get the job.

He said on talkSPORT: "He's got Champions League football to look forward to! He's looking to get two in a row!

"We've just for the second year in a row -and we've not had any supporters in all season - we've just sold 40,000 season tickets. The club's going through the roof!

"He's on board, he's going into his fourth season having won the championship in his third, he's got a board that back him, he's doing ever so well.

"Come on guys, let's be realistic about this. There's a better chance of me being the Everton manager than Steven Gerrard!"

McCoist was then asked if that meant he thought it would be a bad appointment for the Toffees.

He replied: "I didn't say that .

"There are one or two things that only Steven would be able to answer and the Everton job is a fantastic job.

"But let's not kid ourselves on, it's not for Steven Gerrard at this moment in time."
