Ally McCoist in Rangers title admission as club icon warns of the biggest battle yet to come

Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes there is nothing harder than winning the first title as a team.

Allan McGregor and Steven Davis have lifted the Premiership title under Walter Smith but a triumph this season will be the first for Steven Gerrard and his players.

McCoist was previewing the crunch Carabao Cup semi-final between rivals Manchester United and Manchester City and the 58-year-old believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be a different team once they lift silverware.

And the beloved pundit's word also rings true for Rangers who currently enjoy a 19-point buffer over rivals Celtic in the race for Scottish football glory.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "The late, great Davie Cooper put in a cross for Terry Butcher to rise above the Aberdeen defence and it won us the title up at Pittodrie and I can remember it like it was yesterday.

"The first one was always, always the most difficult, I really do believe that."

Rangers can extend their lead to a mammoth 22 points with a win over Aberdeen on Sunday before Celtic face Hibs on Monday night.

Neil Lennon's side would have four games in hand but a further increase in the gap between the sides would heap even more pressure on the reigning champions to keep pace.
