Ally McCoist in Rangers one liner as he corrects Scotland slip of the tongue with 'that was the 90s' zinger

There's no question his beloved Rangers are Ally McCoist 's favourite football topic.

He's been player, manager and now pundit and very much wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to the Ibrox club.

The former striker was a huge part of the club's huge success during the 1990s as they completed a historic Nine In A Row under Walter Smith.

Owing in no small part to that domestic dominance, it also meant there was a strong Rangers contingent in the Scotland setup.

The likes of McCoist, Andy Goram, Richard Gough, Ian Durrant, Gordon Durie, Colin Hendry, Stuart McCall, Barry Ferguson, Ian Ferguson and others all racked up caps over the course of the decade.

And it may just have left McCoist with a Light Blue-tinted view of the national team from that era.

The 58-year-old was discussing the recent World Cup qualifers on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra when he very nearly slipped out 'Rangers' instead of Scotland.

"Results will probably dictate how Ra.., eh, Scotland set up in the last few games."

Co-pundit Chris Sutton was clearly listening intently as he quicly interjected.

He said: "Don't get Scotland and Rangers mixed up!"

But McCoist, never short of a one-liner, fired back immediately and claimed, once upon a time, it was the same thing.

He replied: "Well, that used to the case in the 90s when it was very much the same thing!"
