Ally McCoist in Rangers greater good admission as he shares his alternative ref verdict

Rangers icon Ally McCoist admits he can accept officials getting decisions wrong against his team as he grows increasingly frustrated with VAR.

The 57-year-old was Easter Road on Sunday as Martin Boyle drifted offside in the build-up to Hibs' equaliser against the Light Blues during a pulsating 2-2 draw.

But McCoist is adamant he wouldn't like to see video technology introduced into the Scottish Premiership after the trials and tribulations south of the border.

The latest flashpoint occurred on Saturday night when Manchester United suffered a double punishment.

Victor Lindelof was harshly ruled to have handled in the are from close distance before David De Gea was adjudged to have left his line to save Jordan Ayew's penalty in the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

But former Rangers boss McCoist is happy for the major talking points to remain in Scottish football even if the side he follows is on the receiving end.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "My team had a goal disallowed for offside in the build-up yesterday.

"Just offside, now the linesman doesn't do his job, doesn't see it, doesn't give it.

"Do you know something? I actually preferred that in a bizarre way than all this nonsense going to VAR."

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admits he was left frustrated by the call but hopes his side get the rub of the green as the season goes on.

He said: “It was offside but over the course of a season, some you get and some you don’t. That one hasn’t gone our way but we have to defend it better.

“We can’t use the offside as an excuse. We’re not happy with the outcome but there’s no need to panic. Every time you drop points as Rangers manager, it’s frustrating."
