Ally McCoist in passionate Rangers and Celtic TV defence as he vents at UEFA for 'barking up the wrong tree'

Fed-up Ally McCoist believes the raft of changes coming to the Champions League cannot be overshadowed by the fallout that's followed the collapse of the European Super League.

The Rangers hero fears for his former team and Celtic as he used the trials and tribulations Ajax have had to go through as an example of UEFA looking out for clubs from the biggest five leagues in Europe.

Aleksander Ceferin enjoyed a very good week as his stern words played a part in the mortifying collapse of the European Super League power grab.

But McCoist insists it would be foolhardy to believe European football's governing body have the best intentions for teams looking to shake-up the tournament on a regular basis.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, he said: "The pressure has been taken off UEFA and FIFA a little bit because both organisations have frankly been a shambles in recent years and I think we are all in agreement on that.

"The Champions League format, you could question,  go right through it and pick pieces in it all over the place.

"For example, you have a team like Ajax, who reached the semi finals and the following year they have to go and play two or three qualifiers.

"What is that all about? There are three or four teams from bigger countries who, let's be honest about it, are going straight into the tournament.

"There's a lot of things with the Champions League. UEFA do not surprise me and once you mess with the integrity of any competition you are barking up the wrong tree.

"The Super League was embarrassing, the level of arrogance shown by these people."
