Ally McCoist in new Celtic vs Rangers fixture jibe as Ibrox legend offers Steven Gerrard transfer advice

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has teased radio pal Alan Brazil over the delayed first derby of the season.

The former Ibrox striker and manager had a laugh with Celtic diehard Brazil on their early morning talkSPORT show and McCoist couldn't resist another dig at the fixture computer.

The first derby of the season isn't until October 17, the latest it has been since Rangers returned to the top flight. McCoist couldn't believe it when he heard the fixtures earlier in the week and is clearly still in the same boat.

He questioned whether the super computer was as random as is stated with his old side handed a tough trip to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on the opening day of the campaign.

And as Brazil brought up what was happening in Scotland, McCoist was happy to stir the pot again as he said: "You’ll be delighted with your opening fixture. We’re up at Aberdeen and you’ve got Hamilton at home.

"And for some reason the first Old Firm game is in 2026 at Celtic Park. They’ve put it as far back as humanely possible."

McCoist has also told Steven Gerrard that if he is to catch Celtic and stop 10 in a Row then he needs to sign players to go straight into the starting XI.

Rangers have signed three players this summer with Ianis Hagi being joined by Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin. It's likely that only Hagi will be a starter there and McCoist wants more that will walk into the team.

He added: "Rangers, I think, need certainly two, probably three to go right into the team. If Steven gets money to spend he needs to sign players who go straight into the team."
