Ally McCoist in hysterics as Rangers legend suffers delayed on-air reaction to 'biggest nightmare ever'

Hysterical Ally McCoist admits he had the "biggest nightmare ever" after taking almost 30 minutes to realise his hilarious on-air gaffe.

The Rangers legend put his foot firmly in it when asking Bournemouth fan Chris if he was "at the game" on Wednesday night as the Cherries went down 4-1 to Newcastle United.

Of course, the Vitality Stadium is currently closed to supporters with all Premier League matches being played behind closed doors.

The Cherries supporter called up the talkSPORT Breakfast Show to vent as his side plunge towards relegation.

And McCoist enquired: "Morning Chris... were you there last night?"

A somewhat baffled Chris replied: "No, no, no, no..."

The conversation continued from there as the fan called for boss Eddie Howe to be sacked and replaced by Sam Allardyce.

After the interview ended, host Alan Brazil and guest Jamie O'Hara played the clip back to sustained laughter around the studio - except McCoist.

The former Scotland striker, broadcasting from home later trotted off to make a cup of tea and it was only then he realised why he'd become the butt of jokes.

Rushing back to his microphone, McCoist could barely keep it together as he said: "By the way, listen, I can't believe it.

"I'm in there making myself a cup of tea, right, and I'm saying: 'Why are they laughing at me?!'

"Why are they laughing at me asking that boy if he was at the game last night?

At this point, McCoist is in fits of laughter.

But he just about manages to continue, admitting: "It's just registered.

"Aww man... I've had the biggest nightmare ever!

"I'm not kidding you, I'm sitting at the sink making a cup of tea, thinking: 'Why are those two bandits laughing at me?"

You can listen to the full exchange above.
