Ally McCoist hits out at Celtic captain Scott Brown as pundits clash over derby fallout

Ally McCoist has slammed Rangers trio Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Andy Halliday and laughed off John Kennedy's suggestion Scott Brown behaved impeccably.

The Ibrox legend reckons the three Rangers players - who were all suspended after the defeat to Celtic - were daft for getting involved and described Morelos as an "idiot".

But McCoist couldn't believe Celtic assistant Kennedy's suggestion that Brown had done nothing wrong during or after his side's win on Sunday and reckoned it wasn't becoming of a Hoops captain.

Speaking to BT Sport, McCoist said: "They should defend their captain but for John Kennedy to come out and say his behaviour was first class? First class behaviour from a Celtic captain?

Former Rangers striker Andy Gray hit by fit of the giggles as he discusses Scott Brown’s SFA charge

"I need to qualify it. Morelos? Idiot. Ryan Kent getting involved? Idiot? Andy Halliday getting involved? As daft as they come but is that first class behaviour?"

Hoops legend Sutton got involved and admitted Brown hadn't behaved as well as he should have but reiterated his stance that being cited by the compliance officer is unfair.

He said: "No, I've made that point clear the other night but all this citation stuff ... we are going to end up where fans are offended when a player scores a goal. Ryan Kent did a finger to the lips gesture.

"Are we going to make a big deal out of that? Of course not. I don't care that Rangers players did a huddle at Parkhead. It's good, it's funny, it's banter. Get over it."

That discussion ended with Sutton clashing with fellow pundit Stephen Craigan who reckons both clubs need to grow up and stop blaming each other.

He said: "The bigger picture is our two top clubs all week since that game have pointed the finger, passed on responsibility."

The former Motherwell defender's claim resulted in Sutton insisting it was only Rangers who were looking the other way.

Craigan felt that proved his point.

Sutton butted in: "Only one club have done that really."

Craigan responded: "There's an example, 'it wasn't us it was them'. I done that in primary school. We're grown men. We're asking supporters to come to the Edinburgh derby, take personal responsibility and look after your own house.

"Surely the players have to follow suit, clubs and managers, don't talk about other team's players, talk about your own players and get your own house in order. Scottish football is fed up listening to this."

Sutton said: "Where does this all stem from? It's a massive deflection tactic from Rangers. Three players sent off."

Craigan replied: "Take responsibility for your own actions. Both teams."

The debate ended with McCoist returning to his point and he admitted he was worried about behaviour right across the Scottish game.

McCoist added: "I'll take it a step further, there is now an underlying current and not just between the Old Firm, but within Scottish football that I do not like. We've seen incidents here (Tynecastle), we went up to Pittodrie, I was horrified.

"The worst I've seen in 15/20 years at Pittodrie. I'm not saying it's Rangers fault, Celtic's fault, we've got to look at the whole thing. There's an underlying current at this time and it involves the keyboard cowards we're not really interested in."
