Ally McCoist gives his Rangers derby verdict but issues one note of caution

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed he was disappointed with his old side's attacking performance in their 2-0 win over Celtic.

But the club's record goalscorer insists they deserved to beat their bitter rivals and controlled the game at Parkhead.

It was a double from Connor Goldson that earned Rangers the three points as they comfortably disposed of Neil Lennon's side in a surprisingly one-sided derby.

Although McCoist was thrilled with the result and the overall performance, the former Ibrox boss has urged caution as he looks for focus in the title battle.

And he picked out Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker as being two players who didn't show their best talents for Steven Gerrard's men.

He told talkSPORT: "Listen, I’ve got to say this, I’m appreciative of the fact every dog can have its day.

"So as good as Rangers were and they were excellent and Celtic were very poor, it’s one game and I’m not getting carried away. I thought Rangers were excellent from start to finish.

"Having said that, I’m going to be honest and say I don’t think Rangers were great in forward areas, I think they can be better.

"(Alfredo) Morelos and (Brandon) Barker were both quiet to be honest but they had enough in hand to win the game."
