Ally McCoist put TV sparring partner Chris Sutton on the spot over his assessment of Celtic's Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The Rangers legend wasn't having the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender - a huge hit with fans so far - being labelled "sensational".
Celtic are in talks to sign the USA international on a permanent transfer and Sutton believes deals for both Carter-Vickers and fellow loanee Jota are vital for the club.
But McCoist was more interested in Parkhead favourite Sutton 's description of the centre-back.
He couldn't resist trying to bait his pal into a response on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra.
Here's how the exchange unfolded:
Sutton: "That would be a sign that Celtic are moving forward, Jota has been sensational and Carter-Vickers has been excellent. It's a message that it sends out to the support that 'we are serious about coming back', If they don't sign them there will be questions asked, both players have excelled so, therefore, get the deals done. Look at him (McCoist), look at his face there..."
McCoist: "Wait a minute, I want to take you back. Did you say the signing of Carter-Vickers has been "sensational"? Is that the word you used there?"
Sutton: "Yes? He's been excellent - you don't think he's been excellent?"
McCoist: "He's been OK!"
Sutton: "Well we've got different standards..."
McCoist: "I think we're throwing the 'exceptionals' and 'excellents' around willy nilly in this New Year, in this January 2022. You calm yourself down, lad. Are you 100 per cent confident in Celtic defensively?"
Sutton: "I think there are issues but I don't think Carter-Vickers is the issue..."
McCoist: (laughing) "That'll do for me, that'll do for me! 'Sutton starts 2022 with Celtic issues claim', that'll do for me."
