Ally McCoist cracks up at Steven Gerrard Rangers cardboard cutout clips as he tells Villa boss 'I've been there mate'

He might have more questions than answers as Ally McCoist again expressed his bewilderment at Steven Gerrard's move to Aston Villa.

But as always with the Rangers legend, he can still see a funny side to the manager's exit south.

And the idea of the cardboard cutouts of the Liverpool hero getting a pasting across the west of Scotland had him in stitches on Friday morning.

Gerrard's switch has the whole football world talking as he leaves the Scottish Premiership after three and a half years and one unbeaten league title last season.

He takes over at Villa with survival in the Premier League the main objective to begin with.

Life-size likenesses of Gerrard became must-have items for households of a blue persuasion after he sealed Rangers' 55th title in March but they've been getting the treatment since the 10am announcement on Thursday.

Videos and pictures have circulated including one supporter delivering a right hook while another turned theirs to face the wall.

One was even filmed showing up at Ibrox to leave his outside the stadium - though he's unlikely to get a refund on his cardboard gaffer.

McCoist has been cracking up at the clips as he hosted the talkSPORT Sports Breakfast, reading out a listener's text: "A couple of belters here. 'Heading home to Kilbarchan to give my Steven Gerrard cardboard cutout a right good kicking.'

"Hahaha! 'Only joking', he says, 'best of luck to Steven and thanks for 55.' Hilarious, love it mate!"

And in true McCoist style he left a subtle self-deprecating quip about his own spell in charge: "I've been there, mate! Don't worry about that one."
