Ally McCoist claims Rangers fans would 'rip the walls down' if Alfredo Morelos is sold this season

Legendary Rangers striker Ally McCoist has claimed fans would "rip down the walls of Ibrox" if Alfredo Morelos was sold in the January transfer window.

The club’s accounts released last Friday showed they have made £11.3million losses, with the failure to cash in on the market being laid bare.

Although revenue rocketed by 63 per cent to £53.2m, the financial results highlighted overall revenue from player sales is at just around seven per cent of their turnover.

Rangers released their figures only hours after top scorer Morelos again outlined his desire to move to a better league.

The Colombian even hinted at a January move on a radio station in his homeland but McCoist insists the Ibrox giants simply cannot countenance sanctioning a transfer while Steven Gerrard is going for the title.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts, the 57-year-old said: "He deserves to go to a better league and perhaps the top, top level of the Champions League.

"But the management and fans must be tearing their hair out.

"Of course they need him this season. I mean, they would rip the walls down at Ibrox if they had the opportunity to win the league and he was sold this season."
