Ally McCoist has delivered damning verdicts on Celtic and Aberdeen's start to the campaign - but the Rangers legend didn't spare his old club either.
He admitted, having watched Celtic beat the Dons at Pittodrie before the international break, that he was thoroughly unimpressed with both teams.
Ange Postecoglou's side edged a tight contest thanks to a late Jota goal.
But McCoist, speaking to Chris Sutton and Darrell Currie on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra, reckons they both looked "bang average".
He said: "I watched that game, I don't know if Chris agrees, but it looked to me like two bang average teams playing each other..."
Sutton replied by asking what McCoist had made of Steven Gerrard's reigning champions by the same measure.
He said: "You say two bang average teams, but what would you use as an adjective for Rangers this season?"
And that prompted a similarly scathing assessment from McCoist.
He continued: "Extremely average, as well. Oh, yeah.
"I've said every week I don't think Rangers have got going, I really don't.
"I still think there's improvement in them.
"I've got to say, if I'm an Aberdeen or Celtic fan, I'm sitting hoping there's improvement in my team as well."
