Ally McCoist believes Celtic's nightmare is only beginning as Rangers hero wonders 'how do you recover from this?'

Rangers icon Ally McCoist believes Celtic and their vexed supporters are struggling to come to terms with the harsh reality that their 10 In A Row dream is all but over.

The Premiership champions' horrendous campaign continued against Livingston in midweek to make it four league games without a win and leave them 20 points behind Rangers.

That has heaped further pressure on Neil Lennon but McCoist admits he wouldn't walk away if he was in the same position as the 49-year-old.

Record Sport pundit Chris Sutton admitted he would call time if he was the Hoops boss but the Rangers icon has a different opinion.

Speaking on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra, he said: "No chance.

"He (Lennon) has won five out of his last six trophies, let's get a couple of things straight here, the level of implosion has staggered everybody."

But McCoist reckons the biggest question that needs answered isn't in relation to embattled Lennon but how supporters and the club come to terms with Rangers regaining control in Scottish football.

The 58-year-old believes the mental battle moving forward could be as big as what happens on the pitch ahead of next season.

He added: "I read big John Hartson and one of the problems that the Celtic support have, and indeed Celtic Football Club, big John came out and said that he thought 10 In A Row was a certainty.

"I think that was word he used, certainty, how do you recover from that?

"If you think something is a certainty, something that is as important to you as a certainty, then it just disappears, this is the problem.

"Everyone involved with Celtic genuinely, and understandably, is really struggling to come to terms with what is happened with their attempt for 10.

"Which is still alive by the way, you lot will all deny it, but Rangers haven't won anything."

But Sutton wasn't having that and amid audible laughter, asked: "How can you keep a straight face?"
