Ally McCoist baffled by Nicola Sturgeon Rangers comment as Ibrox hero queries First Minister's Celtic fan condemnation

Frustrated Ally McCoist has questioned Nicola Sturgeon's decision to bring Rangers into her condemnation of the trouble that took place outside of Celtic Park.

The Rangers legend appeared confused at the First Minister's comments after she mentioned Rangers and Ayr United when she was discussing the incidents.

Three police officers were injured and it drew widespread criticism from the club and politicians who were unhappy with what happened.

And Sturgeon said: "I don't care if you're a Celtic fan, a Rangers fan, an Ayr United fan or no fan of football at all.

"Anybody who attacks police officers is doing wrong and that is pretty despicable.

"I would say that across the board regardless of football or any other sporting affiliation."

But McCoist couldn't understand why his old side were brought into the conversation as he took a thinly-veiled dig at the comments on talkSPORT.

He said: "Going back to Nicola (Sturgeon) I don't know why she brought Rangers and poor Ayr United into it for but that is probably a topic for another discussion."

McCoist himself was heavily critical of the Celtic supporters who had gathered outside the stadium on Monday night.

He said: "There were outrageous scenes after the game.

"There not supporters, I nearly called them supporters, that's exactly the one thing they are not.

"They completely embarrassed themselves with some of their behaviour, throwing fences at police vehicles.

"I don't think I've seen anything like that in this country to tell you the truth, you sometimes see it when it's Turkey and Italy.

"It was absolutely shocking, an embarrassment, they really were, it goes without saying we can do without that."
