Ally McCoist aims cheeky Celtic dig as Rangers legend winds up Alan Brazil over winter break shift

Rangers legend Ally McCoist aimed a cheeky dig at Celtic after the Premiership winter break was moved forward and the second derby game of the season pushed back.

New restrictions on events in Scotland mean that for the next three weeks only 500 supporters can attend matches at any one time, with teams hoping to get fans back later in January.

Of the 12 Premiership clubs 10 were in favour, but Rangers and Ross County voted against the proposals.

The move has been seen by some as an advantage for Celtic, as their rivals are likely to have Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But the gap only closed to six points last night as Ange Postecoglou 's side could only draw with a St Mirren team fielding 16-year-old Dylan Reid and 17-year-old Kieran Offord.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on the talkSPORT breakfast show McCoist couldn't resist putting the boot in as he said: "There's some breaking news - no, seriously!

"Three of the St Mirren players this morning have tested positive for Calpol!"

An exasperated Brazil then asked his co-host when the derby match scheduled for January 2 will now be played.

The SPFL decided on Wednesday to move the winter break for the Premiership forward in order to try and get fans in.

McCoist replied: "It's been put back, I think it's been put back to whenever you decide to play it.

"I think the SFA and the league have just put it in Celtic's hands, Al.

"Effectively I think you've just to let us know when you fancy playing it and we'll come along, I think that's what's happened."

As a massive Celtic fan Brazil couldn't resist a dig of his own though, as he pointed to Rangers' penalty record.

He joked: "Are a couple of your favourite refs not available? Have they got (Covid) symptoms?

"I guess we'll just have to polish that cup, won't we?"
