Ally McBeal to make iconic telly come-back after more than 20 years off screen

Ally McBeal is set to return to our screens in a reboot of the iconic nineties comedy drama.

US channel ABC is bringing back the legal antics and personal chaos of Ally in a reimagined version of the hit show.

The channel is set to revive the Emmy Award-winning series with a young Black woman at the forefront of the drama.

The storyline will follow the daughter of Ally’s old roommate Renee Raddick who joins the same Boston law firm, Cage & Fish, that she worked in back when she burst onto our screens in 1997.

Fans are waiting with bated breath to find out if the reclusive Calista Flockhart will be taking part in the reboot and stepping back in to her role as Ally McBeal.

Reports claim Calista, who found fame on the show, is waiting to see a script before making her decision.

David E. Kelley, the show’s original creator is said to have given his blessing to the reboot’s new writer Karin Gist, who was famed for US medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.

A source told the Sun : “There has been talk of reviving Ally McBeal for years, as the central premise is so desirable to modern audiences.

"It’s the perfect female-driven character drama, really.

“Frankly, it was always ahead of its time, so execs see a reboot as a total no-brainer.

“They are desperate for Calista to jump on board but hope the scripts will convince her to sign up.

“It’s likely a big streamer will bite ABC’s hands off for the rights to air the new series globally.”

Ally McBeal won four Golden Globes as well as seven Primetime Emmys, including for Outstanding Comedy Series, during the five years it aired.

The comedy drama ran from 1997 to 2002 on Fox in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
