Allround Vidarbha women enter knockouts

NAGPUR: Yet another allround performance from Vidarbha women helped them outclass Goa by 9 wickets and record their fifth victory in the senior women's one-day trophy on Friday. This convincing victory enabled them to finish on top of Group 'D' with 20 points.

As has been the script of Vidarbha, their go-to bowlers Komal Zanzad (7-3-8-3) and Kanchan Nagwani (7.4-2-9-3) snared 6 wickets between them and bowled out Goa for 70 in 32.4 overs.

In reply, Vidarbha chased the target scoring 71 for 1 in 15.5 overs. Opener Vaishnavi Khandkar (34 n.o) and No.3 Disha Kasat (37 n.o) were involved in a 71-run unbeaten partnership after they lost Shivani Dharne in the first over. Shivani got out without opening her account.

The Disha-led side lost just one game to Uttarakhand, who finished in second place in the group. They along with Vidarbha advance to the next round. The knockouts will be played in Ranchi.

In the earlier match, left-arm pacer Komal had an excellent day in office as her second straight four-wicket haul and a responsible 41-run knock from Bharti Fulmali helped Vidarbha get the better of formidable Himachal Pradesh by 6 wickets. This win had sent Vidarbha at the top of the table.
