ALLOGGIO hotel group will launch its first hotel "developed from scratch" in Thornton on Thursday.
Locally built, the $10 million project brings the first four-star hotel to the Maitland suburb. It has 55 deluxe rooms and two meeting rooms with state-of-the-art technology.
Alloggio - which operates a number of hotels in NSW and Queensland - has a commercial lease on the site.
Its managing director Will Creedon said the Thornton hotel was part of its expansion and would draw a mix of workers and families and support 400 businesses nearby, including medical centres, industrial bases and sporting grounds.
"We designed the hotel and then it was purpose-built for us to meet our requirements, from scratch," he said.
On the western side of Weakleys Drive at the northern end of the M1motorway, Alloggio Thornton is close to the new Maitland public hospital, Maitland Private Hospital, Maitland gaol, Maitland Sports Ground and Greenhills Stockland.
Mr Creedon expects the hotel to appeal to families using local hospitals or medical centres or visiting friends and relatives in the area.
He said Alloggio targeted the mid-market price range and aimed to be affordable for repeat clients.
"That is very important as the world and Australia tries to understand the economic outlook," Mr Creedon said, adding that room costs would range between $150 and $250 per night depending on the season.
The hotel site was chosen for its proximity to the airport, Hunter vineyards, Newcastle, Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie.
