Alloa v Airdrie: Calum Gallagher says Diamonds must show they are hungry for the chase in League One

Airdrie striker Calum Gallagher says they need to show they are hungry to keep up the chase in League One when they travel to Alloa today.

The Diamonds have picked up just one point from their last three league games and were knocked out of the SPFL Trust Trophy by the Wasps late last month.

Their 3-3 draw with Queen of the South last week stopped a run of three straight defeats in all competitions and Gallagher's side will be determined to get back to winning ways at the Indodrill, with League One leaders Edinburgh City six points clear of fifth-place Diamonds.

Gallagher, who netted in the draw with Queens last week to become Airdrie's record goalscorer in the post-2002 era, said: "That last game at Alloa will be playing on our minds before Saturday.

"I started that night and I didn't think I had a great game, so hopefully I can keep my scoring form going.

"Edinburgh don't need any more encouragement, they are playing really well at the moment, but it is still really early.

"The earlier you can get into the form of picking up points and not letting these teams get away from you, the better, so that when they drop points we can be there to catch up.

"We need to get into that mentality and show that we are hungry to chase."

Meanwhile, player-boss Rhys McCabe reckons the pain of their cup exit to the Wasps will be a driving force.

He said: "Both teams made a couple of changes in terms of personnel in the last game, but we go there with a point to prove.

"We lost there last time but we'll go there with the bit between our teeth looking to avenge the cup result."
