Ronan Farrow has accused his estranged father, Woody Allen, of withholding financial support on the basis that he discredit his mother and sister’s abuse allegations.
In 1992, Allen was accused of sexually assaulting his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, claims which he has consistently denied and for which he was never charged.
The allegations form the basis of the new HBO docuseries Allen v Farrow, which started airing in the UK last night on Sky Documentaries.
In the final episode, which aired on Sunday in the US, Farrow, a journalist, claimed: “For all of us growing up, there was always a lot of incentive to be drawn into Woody Allen’s efforts to discredit my sister.
“For example, he made funding my college education contingent on me speaking out in his support publicly. The offer always stood that if I were willing to publicly go against my mother and my sister that he would offer financial support, support for my education and perhaps a comfortable life with a powerful, influential guy.”

In the same episode, Mia Farrow also accuses Allen of “weaponising” two of her adoptive children, Soon-Yi Previn and Moses Farrow, against her.
Previn has been married to Allen since 1996, having entered a relationship while Allen and Mia Farrow were still dating and Previn was still a teenager. Moses Farrow has spoken out in defence of Allen in the past.
A representative for Allen described Allen v Farrow as a “shoddy hit piece”, claiming that Allen was approached by filmmakers less than two months before the documentary’s release and “given only a matter of days ‘to respond’”.
