Allen Robinson wants to remain with the Bears long term

Bears receiver Allen Robinson has made it clear that he wants to remain in Chicago for the long term.

Robinson has one year remaining on his original three-year, $42-million deal. But he’s hoping this offseason changes things.

Robinson said a couple months back that he wanted to become the Bears’ all-time leading receiver, an honor currently held by Johnny Morris, who has 5,059 yards. Robinson also said he hoped to retire a Bear.

“I think the biggest thing is that, again, it definitely takes both sides,” Robinson said Thursday, via the Sun-Times. “There’s a lot that goes into it. Everybody knows I want to be in Chicago.

“We’re just trying to figure this out. I’m sure that [Bears General Manager] Ryan [Pace], he has a lot going on, stuff he’s trying to figure out. . . .Also, at the end of the day, I’m just preparing, going into a contract year. Because it is the last year of my deal and there’s nothing I can do solely to change that myself.”

You figure that, obviously, the Bears want to keep Robinson in Chicago, as well. Robinson was the lone bright spot on the Bears’ abysmal offense in 2019. He caught 98 passes for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019.

But perhaps what’s even more impressive is that Robinson was able to put together such an impressive — some would even say Pro Bowl-caliber — season under some pretty difficult circumstances.

“I want to be in Chicago, if they’ll have me,” Robinson said. “The biggest thing is, I can’t make that happen solely myself. I just gotta control what I can control. I know that everything will probably play out fine.”

Robinson has made it clear that he wants to stay in Chicago. Now, it’s up to Pace and the Bears to get a deal done.
