Allen Robinson ranked as 4th-best WR in contested catches in 2018

While the Bears defense rightfully stole the headlines in 2018, receiver Allen Robinson quietly put together a solid first season with Chicago.

Coming off an ACL injury that forced him to miss all of 2017, Robinson had 55 receptions for 754 yards and four touchdowns in 13 regular-season contests for the Bears last season. Robinson missed three games due to hip and rib injuries. In the Bears’ lone postseason contest, Robinson had 10 receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown.

While Robinson was good in space, he was also solid when covered. According to Pro Football Focus, Robinson graded as the league’s fourth-best receiver in contested situations. He caught 58.3 percent of passes thrown to him in contested situations.

Here’s what PFF had to say about Robinson:

Robinson delivered a solid season in his first year in Chicago, particularly in the contested-catch department. His 77.7 overall grade came in at 28thamong qualifying wide receivers, but his contested-catch rate of 58.3% was fourth-best at the position. In all, Robinson brought in 14-of-24 contested targets for 231 yards and one touchdown.

With Robinson entering his first offseason with the Bears where he’s completely healthy — and his second season in Matt Nagy’s offense and working with quarterback Mitch Trubisky — Robinson is poised for a breakout season in 2019.
