Allen quiets Flames as Blues close trip with 3-1 victory

In the latest stop in the Blues' enigmatic season, they avenged Sunday's 7-2 loss to Calgary with a 3-1 win over the Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, completing a 2-1 trip through western Canada and heading into the Christmas break on an up note.

Jake Allen made 28 saves, including two on breakaways to keep the Blues ahead.

David Perron, Tyler Bozak and Oskar Sundqvist scored for the Blues, who started the trip by beating Edmonton and then lost to Vancouver on Thursday. The Blues are off until playing Buffalo at Enterprise Center on Dec. 27.

The Blues have won four of their past six games, matching their best six-game run of the season, though the two losses came by scores of 7-2 and 5-1. The Blues go into the Christmas break with 32 points with a 14-16-4 record and continue their run of playing some of their best hockey against the better teams in the league. The Blues finished their season series with the Flames, who lead the Pacific Division and have the second-best mark in the Western Conference, with a 2-1 mark.

The Blues, sticking with the same lineup as on Thursday, scored twice in the first period, first getting a goal from Perron, from a tight angle that goalie Mike Smith seemed to have covered 4:06 into the first period. It was the 12th goal of the season for Perron, a team high. The second goal came from Bozak with 8:17 to go in the first on a power play. Matthew Tkachuk scored for Calgary seven seconds into a power play.

It stayed that way through a second period that Calgary dominated, outshooting the Blues 13-5, and then in the third, Sundqvist extended the lead to 3-1 when his shot from outside as he skated toward the goal couldn't be controlled by Smith and bounced right to Sundqvist, who put the rebound in for his sixth goal of the season.

The Blues didn't activate any of their injured players for the game. Robby Fabbri appears ready to go, but the Blues decided to wait until after Christmas to put him back in action.
