Allen Lazard powers Packers to go-ahead touchdown before half

The Allen Lazard drive.

The Green Bay Packers receiver came into Sunday’s showdown with Washington with only 10 catches in six games, but Lazard only one drive late in the first half to produce half that total on Sunday.

Lazard caught five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown on the Packers’ nine-play, 72-yard scoring drive to end the second quarter on Sunday.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers connected with Lazard for gains of 11, 7, 13, 19 and 10. His 13-yard catch converted 3rd-and-2, and he got the Packers into the end zone on 3rd-and-5 from Washington’s 10-yard line.

The score gave the Packers a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Rodgers hit Lazard on a back-shoulder throw against one-on-one coverage from a safety.

Lazard now leads the Packers in catches and receiving yards at the half. Rodgers has completed 19 of 23 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns, good for a passer rating of 126.1.

Washington has sacked Rodgers three times and blocked a field goal, but the Packers have 13 first downs – including five third or fourth down conversions – and are dominating the time of possession battle, 17:46 to 12:14.

Washington gets the ball coming out of the half.
