A man bitten by a shark claims to have taken revenge by catching and eating the shark that left him with 15 stitches.
Allen Engelman, a 28-year-old commercial fisherman from Florida, was attacked by a spinner shark as he surfed off the coast of Singer Island.
He returned to the beach with his 5-year-old son the following day, when he says he caught the fish before taking it home to smoke, fillet and eat.
Mr Engelman believes the shark he caught is the same one that attacked him, and told the Sun-Sentinel he recognised it from the markings on its fin.
“I got about 30 yards out, wham, I was hit by a shark,” Mr Engelman told The Palm Beach Post.
“He took my left hand down and at the same time I reached down with my right, I grabbed his pec fin and I was battling back and forth with him while I was on my surf board and he let go."
“Now that we got the shark that bit my hand, we’re going to fillet it and we’re going to eat it,” he told the Sun-Sentinel.
It is currently legal to fish 21 species of shark in Florida, with the only restriction being that the spinner sharks must be over 54 inches long.
So far there have been 30 shark attacks this year in Florida according to Shark Tracker, a site set up to log shark spottings and attacks across the world.
