Massimiliano Allegri confirms Aaron Ramsey "on the way out" in Newcastle transfer boost

Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed Aaron Ramsey is on his way out of the club amid reports of a return to the Premier League.

The Welshman opted to move to Turin in June 2019 after arriving a free transfer from Arsenal, penning a four-year deal worth a reported £400,000-a-week.

Ramsey featured prominently in his first two seasons in Serie A under Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo, helping the Bianconeri win an eighth consecutive Scudetto in 2019-20.

But since Allegri returned to the club this summer he has been frozen out of the starting XI, making only three Serie A appearances and just one start this season.

It emerged earlier this week that Ramsey had turned down a move to Burnley, having been linked with a move back to the Premier League throughout the summer.

Newcastle United are expected to follow up on their initial interest in the Wales international as Eddie Howe plans to add more new faces to his squad.

And the Magpies’ chances of landing the 31-year-old have been given a huge boost after Allegri revealed in a press conference that Ramsey would be leaving the club in the current transfer window.

“He is back today, but he is on his way out of Juventus,” Allegri told reporters on Wednesday.

When pressed about where he was heading, the Italian coach did not mention his destination but said: “We’re working on it.

“There are no other changes or transfers in our plans, this is 99 per cent sure.”

After 70 appearances and six goals with the Italian giants, Ramsey now looks poised to head back to England with Newcastle and Everton leading the race for his signature.

It is not yet clear whether his move will be permanent or a loan agreement, but given that Ramsey still has 18 months left to run on his deal, it is unlikely that he will be allowed to terminate his contract.

Given his eye-watering wage package at the Allianz Stadium, it is understood that only Newcastle would be able to meet his salary demands.

Ramsey had spoke at length about his attempts to convince Allegri to hand him more first-team football after joining up with Wales for international duty.

“I’m doing everything that I can to convince the manager that I should get more games,” he said back in November.

“Hopefully, I will get that opportunity to show what I can do.

“I have never doubted my ability, but the minutes I’ve had as game-time so far this season has not been ideal.

“I’m putting the work in and hopefully I’ll get my chance. I’m getting in the best possible shape and I’m doing all I can.

“Sometimes things don’t always work out the way you want them, but then sometimes things can also change very quickly.”
